Is there anything I should do before I request an ILL?
Answer
Before requesting an ILL, make sure we do not own the item or article.
If you are thinking about requesting a book, search Centenary's on-line catalog to make sure we do not have a copy. If we do not own a physical copy of the book, perform a Cyclone search (the search box can be found on the library's homepage) to see if we have an e-book of the requested item. If that does not produce a result, then request the book through our ILL system.
If you are looking for an article, there are two places to search before requesting the item. First, search Centenary's databases by performing a Cyclone Search. Next, search Google Scholar for the item.
To perform a Google Scholar search:
- At the Google Scholar page (https://scholar.google.com/), type or copy/paste the title of the article you are requesting into the search box
- Your article will appear first in the list on the results page
- If there is full-text access, you will see a link to the right of the result. Click on this link to access it.
If, after performing these two searches, you still can not find a full-text version of your item, submit an ILL request.
